The Jakob's Ferry Stragglers to perform at RootStock this weekend

Live music by the Jakob's Ferry Stragglers this Saturday, April 11th, from 1-3pm

The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers are a three and four piece string band based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They combine a variety of influences ranging from Old-Time, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Rock and 1930’s style swing music to create a tight, high-energy sound, complete with heavy grooves, soulful ballads, and extended jams, cherry-topped with well-blended harmony and honest songwriting. Formerly known as The Weedrags, the group formed in 2010 and has been seen at venues and festivals all over the mid-atlantic region, including, The Flood City Music Festival, The Three Rivers Arts Festival and many more. We are excited to have them in the tasting room this Saturday, April 11th from 1-3pm.

Julie LePla will be in the tasting room with a special tasting of her wines during the musical performance. Julies’s wines are grown locally, with some vineyards in the English Hill area. LePla made the wine in an 8’x12’ Tuff Shed for 6 years until a new 12’x24’ underground winery was built in 2012. While ranch-grown Zinfandel remains the flag-ship wine, Julie sources grapes from others and makes different varietals including Barbera, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre and GSM. With no tasting room, wines were sold word of mouth and from the web site. In 2011, Julie LePla Winery became one of four other wineries to open their tasting room inside RootStock.

Every week, RootStock has exciting events going on from our Third Thursday Music Open Mic to our new, Fourth Thursday Poetry Open Mic. We are now offering Art Classes in the Alley Gallery, as well as rotating exhibitions. Select Friday evenings will offer live music from local favorites. Also, check out our newest wine releases from Julie Le Pla, Casey Flat Ranch, and Marr Cellars! We hope to see you this weekend!
