Man Found Dead Near Napa Trail In 'Extremely Serious Crime': PD
The death is being investigated as a homicide and witnesses are sought, police said.

NAPA, CA — The death of a bicyclist Wednesday night in Napa is being investigated as a homicide and witnesses are sought, police said. The victim, identified as Napa resident Douglas D. Davis Jr., 54, was found lying near the Napa Valley Vine Trail bicycle path at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Napa police Lt. Gary Pitkin said in a news release.
Napa police and fire personnel responded to a report of a person down along the trail, southeast of the intersection of Main Street and Central Avenue, and found Davis suffering from traumatic injuries, Pitkin said.
Paramedics rendered aid and took Davis to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, the lieutenant said.

The investigation was turned over to detectives with the Napa Police Department’s Investigations Bureau and Special Enforcement Unit.
"As the case progressed, investigators with the Napa County Major Crimes Task Force including personnel with the Napa Sheriff's Department, Napa District Attorney’s Office and Napa Special Investigations Bureau joined the effort," Pitkin said. "Based on the information developed and evidence recovered, police are investigating this matter as a homicide. Detectives are in the early stages of their investigation and are actively following up on leads."

Detectives are also seeking witnesses who might have information regarding "this extremely serious crime," Pitkin said, expressing condolences to Davis' family and friends.
