NAPA, CA — One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI charges are pending against a bicyclist following a St. Patrick's Day DUI saturation patrol conducted Sunday by the Napa Police Department.

Officers made a total of 41 enforcement stops throughout the day, according to Napa police Traffic Sgt. Kristofer Jenny. The lone DUI arrest was made when an officer stopped a 34-year-old San Pablo woman for a traffic violation and determined she was under the influence of alcohol.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, was booked into Napa County Detention Center.

In an incident involving a bicyclist, an officer assigned to the DUI patrol reportedly watched as a man on a bicycle ran a red light, then collided with a moving vehicle.

"The bicyclist was determined to be under the influence of alcohol," Jenny said.

The bicyclist, whose name was not disclosed, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a minor head injury he suffered in the traffic crash. Charges are pending against the bicyclist for suspected DUI and other alleged vehicle-code violations, according to the sergeant.

In other enforcement stops, one driver was cited for operating a vehicle without a license or on a suspended/revoked license, while 11 other motorists received citations for other vehicle-code violations.

Funding for the Napa St. Patrick's Day DUI saturation patrol was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Jenny said.

The Napa Police Department is planning on conducting another DUI saturation patrol for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo holiday on Sunday, May 5, the traffic sergeant said.

"Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500," Jenny said. "This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time."

The Napa Police Department reminded drivers that "DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze."

"Prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, can impair and result in a DUI," Jenny said. "Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs."
