Natural Gas Leak In Napa Affects 40 Customers
A contractor struck a 2-inch plastic gas line, causing the leak, according to PG&E.

NAPA, CA — Forty PG&E customers were left without natural gas service Tuesday afternoon when a contractor struck a gas line and caused a leak, according to PG&E. The incident happened around 1 p.m. at a construction site in a residential area at Byway East and Salvador Avenue, the Napa Police Department and PG&E reported.
A third-party contractor not affiliated with PG&E was boring with an excavation machine and hit a 2-inch plastic line, PG&E Spokeswoman Deanna Contreras said.
"Gas was flowing but we worked with first responders to stop the flow of gas by 1:30 p.m." Contreras told Patch. "The area has been made safe, however around 40 customers lost gas service."

Napa police advised of traffic impacts because of the incident.
Mostly residential customers were affected and they should not try to relight their pilot lights; instead, they should wait for PG&E crews to restart their gas service, Contreras said.

A crew of gas experts is on standby to relight pilot lights once the repairs are complete, she said. If a customer is not home, PG&E will leave a note on their door with instructions.
