By NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls
Let us introduce you to new NVOS artist Emil Yanos! A ceramic artist, he creates ceramic sculpture that is molded into a general shape, and then carves details into the piece.
Emil's work is a play of contrasts, rough and smooth textures, matte and glossy glazes. He uses color to enhance the textural quality of the work, applying layers of color to add depth, or a single color to flatten the effect.
Born in Hawaii and current resident of Napa, it is perhaps no surprise to learn that Emil is inspired by nature, and creates organic forms reminiscent of natural ones.
You can meet Emil and see more of his work at Studio #26, at the Edwards Art Glass Studio, 1081-A Tamarisk Drive in Napa, California, during Open Studios. You can preview his work online, too, at http://www.pbase.com/limegreen/ceramic.
NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls writes for this blog and our Facebook page (seen it yet?) and paints, paints, paints. You can see her artwork during Open Studios at Studio #48, with Sequoia Buck, west of Calistoga, and online at www.KarenLynnIngalls.com. She also teaches art classes and workshops, which you can find at www.NapaValleyArtWorkshops.com.
