NVUSD Seeks Community Members for Property Committee
Group will recommend property to be designated surplus.

News from the Napa Valley Unified School District:
In an effort to efficiently use its assets, Napa Valley Unified School District is asking community members to volunteer their time and expertise to participate on a “7-11 Committee,” which will be charged with reviewing and analyzing all of the real property owned by the district, and recommending to the Board of Trustees which properties could be sold or leased to other users.
NVUSD staff recently released a draft Facilities Master Plan that outlines a 10-year approach to address needs including seismic and other safety upgrades, construction to relieve overcrowding, modernization and environmental projects.

“When we consider our needs, we also have to consider what resources we have to address those needs,” said Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sweeney. “This committee and its recommendations are an important part of that decision-making. We want to ensure that we use all of our assets wisely, in a way that benefits all our students.”
School districts are required by law to use a 7-11 Committee to analyze potential sale of real assets. The name comes from the membership, which must include at least seven and no more than eleven members.

Over the course of four meetings during October and November, the committee will:
- Review projected enrollment and other data to determine the amount of surplus space and property;
- establish a priority list for using that space and property that will be acceptable to the community;
- communicate those recommendations throughout the district and provide for community input; and
- send a report to the Board of Education with recommendations.
The district is looking for community members who together represent the community’s diversity, including:
- ethnic, age group, geographic and socioeconomic groups;
- the business community;
- landowners, renters and neighborhood associations;
- teachers;
- administrators;
- parents of students;
- and those with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes and land use planning.
Anyone who is interested in serving on the 7-11 Committee is asked to complete an application and submit it to the Office of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Wade Roach, at 2425 Jefferson Street in Napa by 4:30 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 16.
