Parole Denied For St. Helena Man Convicted In Wife's Death: DA

The Napa County DA says Robert Schippmann, convicted in the 1993 killing of his wife, Juli, will spend another three years in prison.

NAPA COUNTY, CA —The office of Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced Friday that parole has again been denied for Robert Eugene Schippmann, who is serving a sentence of 19 years to life in prison for killing his estranged wife in 1993.

Schippmann, convicted of second-degree murder in the April 23, 1993 death of Juli Schippmann, will spend at least another three years behind bars, according to the Napa County DA's Office.

In a hearing held Thursday before the Board of Prison Terms at California Medical Facility in Vacaville, Assistant Napa County DA Paul Gero argued against Schippmann's release "based upon the viciousness of the murder, his continued lack of insight in to the role of domestic violence, his limited participation in self-help programs, and the unreasonable danger he presents to the community should he be paroled."

According to the Napa County DA's Office, on April 23, 1993, Schippmann drove Juli to a remote location in the hills near Angwin, leaving her car running in front of his St. Helena home, with her purse inside the car. With his .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle, Schippmann shot his wife three times: in her chest, her back and the back of her head, prosecutors said.

Schippmann pleaded guilty in 1993 to second-degree murder and admitted to the special allegation of personal use of a firearm.

The DA's Office the parole board Thursday agreed Schippmann "continued to pose a threat to public safety and denied [his] parole for three years" pursuant to Marsy’s Law, which was passed by California voters in the November 2008 general election.

"We continue to honor the life of Juli and appreciate how she continues to be loved and missed by her family, friends and our community," said Napa County DA Allison Haley.
