• Napa Prosecutors Charge Man With Starting Pickett Fire (patch.com) — Napa County prosecutors have charged a local man with recklessly starting last year's Pickett Fire near Calistoga, which allegedly caused more than $6 million in damage. The case is being handled by the Napa County District Attorney's Office, with an arraignment set for Sept. 9 in Napa County Superior Court and separate civil proceedings still pending.
   

• Napa Safeway lease ends, soil remediation continues downtown (napavalleyregister.com) — Safeway's long-term lease on the long-vacant downtown Napa store at Jefferson and Clay has ended, but soil remediation tied to an old dry cleaner is still delaying redevelopment. City officials and local experts say the prime site will likely become rental housing someday, though cleanup oversight and a contamination lawsuit could stall visible changes for years.
   

• Peggy Webber Has Died (suggest.com) — Classic Hollywood and radio actress Peggy Webber, known for work with Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, and on Dragnet, has died at age 100 at an independent living facility in Napa. Her long career spanned film, television, radio, and later voice roles, quietly connecting Napa to a storied chapter of entertainment history.
