Jefferson Starship Lands at Uptown

The celebrated 70s band (a revival of the 60s band) arrives in its 21st century splendor at the Uptown on Saturday night, with Capt. Kantner at the bridge

Paul Kantner, a founding member of the seminal San Francisco group Jefferson Airplane, has seen it all: Haight-Ashbury at the height of its psychedelic benevolence; headlining the Fillmore West's opening night; and playing at Woodstock to half a million groggy tripsters.

Kantner talks about the audience, inspiration, music and science-fiction in the interview. He is the one constant in the Jeffersons' storied career, and the latest line-up in the band is one he's proud of, which includes David Freiberg on guitar and vocals, and Cathy Richardson singing in place of Slick and others.
