Persimmon Or Petunia? Naming Napa Wildlife Rescue's Opossum Ambassador
As Blossom, wildlife education ambassador at Napa Wildlife Rescue, prepares to step down, the public is asked to help name her successor.
NAPA VALLEY, CA — An injured opossum set to become the Napa Wildlife Rescue's next wildlife education ambassador needs a name, and the public is being asked to choose between Persimmon and Petunia.
Supporters can cast their votes in the comments section, writing the name they prefer first, followed by any additional remarks. Votes will be tallied at 10 a.m. Friday.
The young opossum will step into the role as current ambassador Blossom prepares for retirement. Like Blossom, the new ambassador was struck by a car and suffered head trauma and vision impairments that make her non-releasable into the wild.

Staff described the opossum as gentle and well-suited for public appearances, where she will help educate the community about wildlife and the role opossums play in the ecosystem.
As Blossom transitions into retirement, the new ambassador will gradually be introduced at events and programs — with a permanent name chosen by the public.
