Woman Jumps From Highway 29 Overpass In Napa: Police

The incident Friday shut down state Highway 29 in both directions as multiple drivers called 911 and some pulled off the road, police said.

NAPA, CA — A woman was hospitalized in critical condition Friday after jumping from a Napa freeway overpass in an apparent attempt to take her own life, according to an official with the Napa Police Department. Multiple 911 calls started coming in at 2 p.m. about the incident on state Highway 29, Napa police Lt. Chase Haag told Patch.

The middle-aged woman parked her gray BMW on the eastbound side of the 1st Street freeway overpass, walked across the bridge and threw herself onto northbound SR-29, Haag said. She landed on the freeway shoulder, not in either of the two northbound lanes of traffic, the lieutenant said.

Paramedics with the Napa Fire Department and AMR responded, and the woman was rushed by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.

Motorists were advised to avoid the roadway in both directions at First Street.
