Storm Is Here, Napa Valley! Updates on Flooding and Safety

From the City of Napa and County Public Works:

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Marin and Sonoma Counties until 10:15am, and indications are that the heavy rain in those areas is moving into Napa County.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through late Thursday night. A High Wind Warning is in effect through 10:00 p.m. tonight. Up to one inch of rain per hour is possible between now and 12noon.

The Napa River is expected to rise to the monitor stage if the predicted amounts of rain occur. Milliken Reservoir and Lake Hennessy are not full and spilling at this time.

The NWS Watches and Warnings means that excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams and ponding of water in urban areas, on highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.

Mud slides and rock slides are also possible. Gusting winds may cause downed trees, falling power lines, property damage and difficult driving conditions.

The City of Napa continues self-serve sandbags operations for those who want to protect property. The sandbag stations are in the parking lot near First Street and Freeway Drive and on Menlo Avenue adjacent to Memorial Stadium.

As of 7:00 a.m. today, 325 tons of sand and 23,000 bags have been distributed. Sandbags will remain available as long as there is a need. Residents should bring a shovel and gloves and plan to fill and transport their own bags.

For public safety, Trancas Crossing Park is now closed through the weekend, and the Oxbow Preserve will be closed today and Friday.

The gangway for the Main Street Boat Dock has been hoisted out of the floodway, and the dock will be closed until the storm passes and water levels subside.

City and County personnel will continue to monitor the weather forecast and make all necessary preparations.

The current storm event has caused localized flooding and standing water on Silverado Trail - North of Yountville Crossroad. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and proceed with caution.
