Suspects Steal Catalytic Converter At Gunpoint, Hit Police Car: ACPD

One suspect cut the converter off while the other displayed a handgun and told the resident to go back inside, American Canyon police said.

AMERICAN CANYON, CA — Two men are wanted on suspicion of stealing a catalytic converter at gunpoint Tuesday in American Canyon, according to police.

A resident on Iron Horse Drive called 911 around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday to report the theft. The resident told police they heard loud noises outside, then saw a man under their car cutting off the catalytic converter, American Canyon police said in a news release.

The resident said a second man approached them and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and told them to go back inside while the other suspect continued to cut off the catalytic converter, according to police.

When officers tried to stop the Corolla, the driver failed to yield and rammed an ACPD patrol car, police said.

Officers pursued the suspects until the Corolla entered westbound state Highway 37 in the eastbound lanes. ACPD terminated the pursuit due to the vehicle driving the wrong way in heavy commute traffic and public safety, police said.

The suspects and their vehicle were still outstanding Wednesday morning. The suspects were described as two Hispanic men in their mid-30s. Both were around 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed between 150 and 200 pounds, police said.

Police asked anyone who witnessed the incident or can provide information toward the apprehension of the suspects to contact Napa Dispatch at 707-253-4451.
