Taste of Petaluma 2015 Preview

Chefs are once again preparing for the annual Taste of Petaluma celebration of food and arts in historic downtown Petaluma.

Petaluma is known for its local wines and breweries, farms and markets, and vibrant art scene. The 10th annual Taste of Petaluma celebrates Petaluma’s upscale culinary vibe and brings it to the streets of the historic downtown district. The event is a fundraiser benefiting Cinnabar Theater.

You can experience Taste of Petaluma on Saturday, August 22, from 11:30am to 4:00pm. Ticket packages are available for $40 which entitles you to 10 dine-around tastings. With the map provided (view map online), you are invited to explore the historic downtown and sample a variety of foods, wines, and other treasures. Live music and entertainment will be playing all day. Tickets are available online and at the following venues: Cinnabar Theater, Gallery One, Velvet Ice Collections, Blush Collections, and Petaluma Downtown Association. Additional single-taste tickets can be purchased during the event for $4.

The lineup of restaurants and breweries this year offers something for everyone, from local beers and wines, to vegan plates, yoga, and doggy treats. Each tasting requires one ticket. Browsing the list of vendors online you will find a couple participants offering free samples which do not require a ticket.

Many new and exciting restaurants will be participating in the Taste of Petaluma event this year. Below is a sample of the wonderful culinary experiences that await you.

Husband and wife team, chef Julie and wine connoisseur Dick, open their intimate 5-table Twisted 2 restaurant to share the wonderful culinary delights known to locals as quaint, eclectic, fresh and natural. Special for the Taste event, Julie will be preparing a unique Brazilian Black Bean Cassoulet, similar to a hearty stew, served with Sweet Potato Biscuit, and John will be pouring Kenneth-Crawford Winery Riesling.

New to Taste this year is Native Kitchen & Kombucha Bar, open in downtown Petaluma less than a year. The husband and wife team of Joseph and Jasmine offer a beautiful, clean space with authentic, creative and healthy organic, gluten-free choices that far exceed expectations of any traditional health-food restaurant. The kombucha is brewed by Joseph and served on tap, mixed to taste and incorporating a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and elixirs. Be sure to stop by and try the delicious creations prepared by Jasmine, including kale salad and jalapeno cornbread.

Multiple-winner of 2015 Petaluma People’s Choice awards for Best Chef, Best Cocktail, Best Seafood, and Best Steak, Seared joins the Taste lineup once again. This year Executive Chef Joe will be preparing fresh Hamachi and a seasoned Hanger Steak skewer. Seared is a member of the Sonoma County Go Local Coop, and they’re known to change up their menu every few months to take advantage of the fresh local ingredients. Not available during Taste, but a local favorite, be sure to stop by during Happy Hour and try the Prime Rib Sliders or the infamous Deviled Eggs.

The Taste of Petaluma brings together a community for one day, with a chance to try something amazing and new, in support of the Cinnabar Theater and local arts. Tickets for the event are available online here.
