The car turned in a counter-clockwise direction and crossed the northbound lane before veering off the roadway, CHP officers said. It then crashed into some rocks but continued down an embankment for approximately 50 feet where the engine ignited and the car became engulfed in flames.
CHP officers said two people inside the car were pronounced deceased at the scene. It’s unclear whether the occupants were wearing their seatbelts or whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, CHP officers said.
