UPDATE: Napa PD Issues Statement on 'Private' Couple Found Dead Monday In Apartment

The female, found sitting in a chair, appeared to be dead for several weeks. The man was found dead on the floor, police said.

News submitted from the Napa Police Department:

On 3/16/2015 at about 2:36 PM the Napa Police Department responded to the 600 block of Riverglen Drive for a welfare check. The reporting party stated they had not seen the two people whom live in an upstairs apartment for at least one week.

The reporting party normally saw the subjects on a regular basis. The reporting party had tried to make contact with them by knocking on their door but received no response. Both subjects were normally seen on a regular basis but were known as recluses to most people living in the complex.

Officers first tried to phone into the apartment but the subjects phone immediately went to voice mail. They knocked on the front door and also received no response. Officers could see a large amount of flies in the front window but the window coverings were closed.

The officers entered the apartment to check the welfare of the subjects living in the apartment. Both subjects were found deceased in the front living room.

The female subject, identified as Sandra Peterson (55 yrs.) was seated in a chair fully clothed and appeared to have been deceased for several weeks. The male subject, identified as Gene Meixel (66 yrs.) was found lying on the floor unclothed and appeared to have been deceased for about one week.

The Napa Police Department is currently investigating the deaths. At this time we are unable to determine a cause of death and will be waiting for an autopsy that will be performed later this week. No weapons or suicide notes were found at the scene.

The investigation will be ongoing.
