Valley Fire Increases to 70,000 Acres, Still 30 Percent Contained

The Valley Fire that started in Lake County on Saturday and has spread to Napa and Sonoma counties has burned 70,000 acres and remains 30 percent contained, Cal Fire officials said this morning.

The blaze, which started at 1:24 p.m. Saturday in the area of Cobb in Lake County, has killed at least one person and injured four firefighters. Cal Fire officials said at least 585 homes and hundreds of other structures have been destroyed, and at least 9,000 others remain threatened.

Nearly 2,800 fire personnel remain at the scene of the quick-moving wildfire. Cooler temperatures Monday and Tuesday have helped firefighters increase containment of the blaze and there is a chance of rain in the area tonight, Cal Fire officials said.
