San Diego, CA — Kids Bike Day, a nonprofit dedicated to providing joyful and empowering biking
experiences for children, will host a free community biking event on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Jackie Robinson YMCA.
The event will feature over 100 bikes, trikes, wagons, scooters, and specialty rides, giving children of all skill levels the opportunity to ride, learn, and have fun in a safe, supportive environment. Free bike riding lessons will be available throughout the day, and we will have helmets for kids. We will even take a bike apart and put it back together!
Open to all children, the event aims to create access to outdoor recreation for families, especially those from low-income communities. Free parking will be available onsite. Participation requires a signed parent permission slip.
Kids Bike Day has hosted more than 40 events, serving thousands of children across communities. The
organization’s mission is to provide a free day of bike riding for low-income children, helping them build
confidence, develop healthy habits, and experience a sense of opportunity and empowerment.
“When children arrive and see rows of bikes—two-wheelers, three-wheelers, wagons, and more—their
excitement is immediate,” said Terry Okey, Founder of Kids Bike Day. “It’s even more special when parents and teachers join in the fun. It becomes a shared community experience.”
Community members are encouraged to support the event through donations at kidsbikeday.com.
