Arrests, Tickets At DUI Checkpoint In Newark Last Weekend

Police officers also had two vehicles towed from the scene.

NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department has announced the results of last weekend's DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint. Officers contacted 716 vehicles, cited 14 drivers for being unlicensed, towed 2 vehicles, arrested 1 driver for a felony warrant, and arrested 1 driver for DUI.

The checkpoint was staged at Thornton Avenue and Newark Boulevard. It was chosen because of crash statistics and frequency of DUI arrests.

Last year the Newark Police Department investigated seven DUI wrecks that killed one person and injured six others.

The Newark Police Department plans further crackdowns later in the year.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
