Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Freight Train, Newark Intersection Closed

NEWARK, CA: An intersection in Newark is closed this afternoon after a train fatally struck a pedestrian, according to Bay City News. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and should expect significant delays.

A Union Pacific train struck a victim who was on the tracks, Union Pacific spokesman Justin Jacobs said.

Alameda County Fire officials were dispatched to a collision in the area of Jarvis Avenue and Fircrest Street at 1:42 p.m., according to the Pulsepoint phone application.

Both Jarvis Avenue and Haley street at the railroad tracks will be closed "for the next several hours" because of the fatality, according to officials
