Dog Food Recall: Salmonella and Listeria Risk
Smallbatch Pets Inc. is recalling Frozen Dog Duckbatch Sliders, distributed in California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado.

Smallbatch Pets Inc. is recalling one lot of frozen dog duckbatch sliders because it may be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall came after routine testing by the FDA found the bacteria.
The recalled dog food was distributed to stores in California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. Eighty cases of the recalled product were sold between the dates of 2/23/16 – 3/10/16.
The frozen dog duckbatch sliders were sold in 3 lbs. bags. The packages are marked with the manufacturing code:

In addition to the threat to dogs, people can get Salmonella and Listeria from handling contaminated pet food, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after handling the product or by touching any surfaces exposed to the products.
According to the FDA, "Healthy people infected with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms."

If you think that you've been infected, call your doctor immediately.
Dogs who eat food contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some dogs will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. However, infected dogs could infect other animals or humans. "If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian," the FDA recommends.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
