Local Firefighters Return From Battling Trailhead Fire

Firefighters from three East Bay fire agencies returned home Tuesday evening, six days after deploying to the Trailhead Fire last Thursday.

The strike crew is made up of personnel from Alameda County Fire, Fremont Fire and Hayward Fire departments.

The wildfire has charred more than 5,500 acres in Placer and El Dorado counties, and is 50 percent contained.

Three injuries have been reported in the blaze and 2,600 structures are threatened.

Mandatory evacuations have been downgraded to voluntary. However, residents have been told that they could be asked to evacuate again at any time. "Residents throughout the fire area are advised that there is still active fire inside the containment lines, and they may be asked to evacuate again should conditions change," the situation report reads. "Fire traffic is still heavy as firefighters work to fully contain the fire."

On July 2, Alameda County Fire provided this video showing the rugged conditions encountered by local firefighters. They were cutting a fire line through the dense brush.

The fire is burning in the El Dorado National Forest along the Middle Fork of the American River near Todd Valley.

It sparked on June 28. The cause is still under investigation
