WEDNESDAY UPDATE HERE: California Wildfire Status: 4,000 Firefighters Assigned to 12+ Fires
While most Californians were able to enjoy a nice repose from work over the long holiday weekend, the same cannot be said for thousands of firefighters working around the clock across the state.
As of Tuesday morning, some 5,200 firefighters were battling 14 large wildfires across California, according to Lynnette Round of Cal Fire.

Since the state's fire season got off to an early start this year, hundreds of homes have burned, dozens more have been damaged, and at least four deaths are being blamed on the wildfires.
"In California, wildfires aren't a question of if, but only a question of when," Round said on Tuesday. "If you choose to live near a natural area of the state, you are at risk for wildfires, and it's your responsibility to prepare yourself, your family and your home."
