Newark Auto Burglary Leads To 2 Arrests

Police say the suspects were captured with the loot taken from the car. An eyewitness called police.

NEWARK, CA — Two people were arrested following an auto burglary in Newark Thursday afternoon. A 24-year-old Fremont man and a 33-year-old San Jose woman were both taken into custody on a charge of auto burglary and booked intot he Fremont jail.

The auto burglary was reported at 3:17 p.m. on the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue. According to police, "The reporting person advised police that within the past 10 minutes, a male suspect smashed the rear window of a vehicle, took property and then walked away. The reporting person also advised that male suspect had a female accomplice with him."

Officer Horst arrived quickly, coordinated a perimeter, and spotted the suspects in one of the carport areas.

The male suspect fled on foot but was captured by Officer Pacheco. The suspect was found to be in possession of stolen property from the burglary, according to police.

The female suspect was also detained and found to be wearing Nike Jordan shoes that had been stolen in the burglary.
