Newark Police Arrest Man For Pointing Gun at People, Homes

When officers arrested the man, they found out the gun was a "replica" designed to look real. Potential victims didn't know that.

NEWARK, CA — Newark Police arrested a man last Friday after receiving a call about a man with a gun. It turned out the gun was a “replica” firearm, produced to look authentic.

The call was received on July 29, at 4:38 p.m. The report said that the man was walking along the sidewalk pointing the gun at houses and people in the area.

The suspect was located on Milani Avenue near Cedar Boulevard, where he was taken into custody without incident.

The police department credits its officers for showing "tremendous restraint...we strongly believe a tragedy was averted in this incident."
