Newark Police Return Stolen Property To Victim
Two Newark Police Officers Arrested a woman on suspicion of identity theft and multiple other charges.

NEWARK, CA — Newark Police arrested a Livermore woman on suspicion of identity theft when they discovered " a plethora of identity theft documents – with over 20 victims identified to date." during a routine traffic stop. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was booked into the Fremont Jail on suspicion of the following crimes:
- possession of a controlled substance
- possession of drug paraphernalia
- driving with a suspended license
- possession of burglary tools
- identity theft - possession of 10 or more victim’s information
The items were found because the woman was on probation, allowing officers to conduct a search.
Officers Kapu and Johnson are credited with the arrest.

The police department also released a photo of one of the victims whose stolen property was returned to her.

- Sign up for informed delivery from the US Postal Service. This allows you to digitally preview incoming mail, track packages, provide delivery instructions, and reschedule redelivery
- Consider purchasing a lockbox mail box (make sure the lock is USPS approved)
- Avoid answering emails or text messages with any personal information (i.e. banking info, social security info, etc)
- Check your credit report annually (you can do this once a year for free)
- Be aware of credit card skimming
- Shred your mail once you’re done with it
- Consider identity theft insurance
