Newark Receives $1 Million Grant To Combat Organized Retail Theft
The money will be used to prevent motor vehicle and vehicle accessory theft.
NEWARK, CA — The City of Newark her been awarded a $986,444 grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections Organized Retail Theft Prevention Program.
The Newark Police Department plant to use the money to address the increase in motor vehicle and motor vehicle accessory theft.
Specifically, the funds will be used to launch the Newark Vehicle and Accessory Theft Prevention Program (NVATPP). The police department plans to leverage technology and community partnerships to provide comprehensive, evidence-based public safety services to prevent motor vehicle and vehicle accessory theft.

The goals of the program include:
• Increasing the number of cases sent to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
• Reducing vehicle and accessory theft in the City of Newark.
• Improving community satisfaction through a Catalytic Converter Label Identification program.
