Newark Schools Close For 3 Weeks: Coronavirus
The Newark Unified School District made the announcement Friday afternoon.
NEWARK, CA — The Newark Unified School District will close all schools for three weeks in an effort to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19. The decision was announced Friday afternoon in a message signed by Acting Superintendent Leticia Salinas.
While there are no known coronavirus cases in Newark's school district, the Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting and voted to suspend classroom instruction and close schools.
Classes will be held on Monday on a minimum schedule. Then all schools will be closed Tuesday until at least April 6. There'sa possibility that schools could remain closed longer under the guidance of the Alameda County Public Health Officer.

Hundreds of other schools are also closing in Fremont, Union City, and the Bay Area. Elsewhere in the nation, entire states are closing schools.
