NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy is an opportunity to learn about the department's work with gangs, narcotics, the SWAT team and more.

The deadline to sign-up has already passed, but so many people expressed an interest at National Night Out events that the police department decided to re-open registration. The new deadline is before the end of regular business hours on Friday....so click the link now to register for the free academy.

The classes begin August 21, 2019 and will meet every Wednesday for eleven weeks from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Topics that the course may cover include:
- ethics, hiring and field training
- traffic enforcement
- patrol
- criminal evidence response team (CERT)
- vehicle abatement
- use of force
- firearms familiarization
- gangs
- narcotics
- social media & investigations
- k-9 program
-SWAT
- Red Light Enforcement

Applicants should:
- have no prior felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
- be willing to have a background check completed
- have the ability to attend all scheduled sessions
- be at least 21 years old
- live or work in the City of Newark
- not be a prior CPA graduate.
