Open Table’s 2016 Best Restaurants in California for Foodies
California leads all states for restaurants chosen by diners who are passionate about food.
It’s an old debate — do you eat to live or live to eat? Choose food simply for its nutritional value or select meals that will wow your senses?
For foodies, there is no debate. They seek out amazing dining experiences that leave them searching for soaring metaphors and adjectives.
Open Table has come up with its 2016 list of “100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America.” Not surprisingly, California has 17 restaurants on the list, more than any other state. The list includes dining spots on the coast from Bodega Bay to San Diego, and inland from Sacramento to Palm Springs.

"Using ingredients both humble and exotic and drawing culinary inspiration from around the globe, this year's honorees consistently offer thrilling experiences sure to please even the most discerning diners."
The most popular cuisine is American, but French and Italian eateries are also prevalent.

So, how was the list created? From more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified Open Table diners between Aug. 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016. All restaurants with a minimum overall score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews for which "fit for foodies" was selected as a special feature.
