Ro Khanna Declares Second Campaign for Congress in 2016
The seat has been held by U.S. Rep. Mike Honda since 2000.

Ro Khanna declared this weekend that he is running for Congress again in 2016 for a seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Mike Honda, campaign officials said today. Khanna, a 38-year-old lawyer, made the announcement during an event Saturday in Santa Clara, where he said he would run for the 17th Congressional District seat for a second time, according to campaign officials.
Khanna ran against Honda six months ago during the 2014 general election, losing by a 3.6 percent margin in votes. Officials with Honda’s campaign anticipated Khanna’s 2016 campaign announcement and in a statement issued last week said, “As we know from history, Ro Khanna’s ability to raise money is only surpassed by his ability to squander it.”
“Mike Honda welcomes the challenge and believes his long history of serving the district honorably and with principle will outweigh the determination of the wealthy interests backing his overly ambitious challenger,” the statement said.
