Roadway Reopens Hours After Dead Body Discovered in Newark

Officials say the man has not been identified.

A major thoroughfare in Newark has reopened this evening several hours after the discovery of a dead body shut down the roadway. Officers were notified around 1:25 p.m. of a possible dead body along the edge of the roadway on Thornton Avenue, where they located a man’s body, according to Newark police Cmdr. Michael Carroll.

Carroll said the man has not been identified and that he did not know whether foul play was suspected in connection with his death. Police shut down Thornton Avenue between Gateway Boulevard and Willow Street for several hours and reopened it around 6 p.m.
