Sign-Up Now For Newark Citizen Police Academy

NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department will hold a Citizen Police Academy from Sept. 15 through Nov. 17. Sign-ups are open now, and the deadline to apply is next Wednesday at 5 p.m.⁠

"The Newark Police Department’s philosophy of community oriented policing involves increasing awareness of the importance of an effective police–community partnership that includes open and honest communication," the department said on social media. "One of the goals of the Citizen Police Academy is to facilitate this partnership and to improve communication by developing a better understanding of each other’s role in the community.⁠"

To apply, you must meet these qualifications:

1. Have no prior felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.
2. Be willing to have a background check completed.
3. Attend all scheduled sessions.
4. Be at least 21 years old.
5. Live or work in the City of Newark.
6. Not a prior Newark CPA graduate.
