Traffic Alert in Newark: Police Say Train Blocking Railroad Crossing
Drivers asked to avoid the railroad crossing on Cedar Blvd.

Information via Newark Police Nixle Alerts:
The Newark Police Dept. advises that you avoid the railroad crossing on Cedar Blvd. due to a stalled Union Pacific Freight Train. Use Cherry St. and Newark Blvd. as alternate routes.
One of the rail cars experienced a mechanical failure as the train was travelling through the City. The mechanical linkage that connects each of the rail cars together failed on two of the cars causing the train to stop. When the linkage broke, it caused minor damage to the train tracks.
Union Pacific currently has a work crew on scene and is trying to repair the damage as quickly as possible.
There is currently no estimated time for when the damage will be repaired and the roadway will reopen.
Currently there is no hazardous materials concerns as the damaged rail car was loaded with new motor vehicles and did not overturn during this incident.
