Tri-City Man's Body Found in Creek

In an odd twist, investigators believe he may have been the driver of a truck that crashed before dawn.

UNION CITY, CA — A man whose body was found floating face down Thursday morning in a waterway near Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland was identified as 20-year-old Dominic Monterosso from Union City, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

A Caltrans worker found Monterosso floating face down in Lion Creek between 66th Avenue and Oakport Street, near the Oakland Coliseum, at about 11:30 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Anderson.

Monterosso may have been the driver of a vehicle that crashed in the area about six hours earlier.

At 5:42 a.m., a crash was reported nearby in the southbound lanes of Highway 880 just north of the Hegenberger Road exit. A silver 1997 GMC 1500 pickup truck hit the guardrail on the right shoulder, Anderson said.

It was still dark at that time and officers who responded to the crash couldn't find the driver of the truck, he said.
