Woman, Dog Fatally Struck By Car In Newark

A 34-year-old Newark woman and a small dog were fatally struck on a road in Newark Monday night.

NEWARK, CA — A woman and a dog were both struck and killed by a vehicle in Newark earlier this week, police said. On Monday, just after 8 p.m., officers with the Newark Police Department and the Alameda County Fire Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian by the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Joaquin Murieta Avenue.

The first responders found a 34-year-old Newark woman and a small dog in the roadway and attempted medical aid. However, both the woman and her dog succumbed to their injuries, police said Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. It was not yet known if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision, according to police.
