Arrest Made In Newport Beach Double Homicide

The Newport Beach Police have arrested a 44-year-old ex-con on suspicion of killing Wendi Sue Miller and Donald Partch Sunday.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 44-year-old ex-con suspected of killing a man and woman in a Newport Beach condominium on Sunday is in custody, police announced Thursday.

Newport Beach Police arrested Jamon Rayon Buggs of Huntington Beach Thursday on suspicion of killing 48-year-old Wendi Sue Miller of Costa Mesa and 28-year-old Donald Partch of Newport Beach.

Their mysterious deaths rattled the community — especially when few clues emerged or even a motive for the slayings.

"Buggs is already in custody on charges related to a series of attempted burglaries in Irvine, including one in which he allegedly fired a bullet into a residence when spotted by a resident," according to Heather Rangel, spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department.

The investigation is "open and ongoing," Rangel added.

"The Newport Beach Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement partners, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Orange County Crime Lab, Irvine Police Department, Laguna Beach Police Department, Costa Mesa Police Department, Santa Ana Police Department, and Anaheim Police Department for their assistance with this investigation," she said.

Buggs is being held on $1 million bail, pending double murder charges.
