The Battle of the Labor Dispute Signs
The Newport Beach-based developer of the Outlets at San Clemente put up its own sign to go head-to-head with a union protest banner.

You’ve seen those “Shame on” banners unions set up to protest contractors who won’t hire union employees? One developer is fighting back.
Today, Craig Realty Group unveiled a mobile LED board at 4100 MacArthur Blvd. in Newport Beach. The 10-ft digital display addresses claims made by Carpenters Local Union 803 against Rick Hamm Construction, a subcontractor handling concrete work on the Craig Realty Group’s Outlets at San Clemente development project, according to a press release.
“We take pride in the work being done on the Outlets at San Clemente project and stand behind our subcontractors,” said Craig Realty Group President and CEO Steve Craig in a prepared statement.

“Contrary to union claims, Rick Hamm Construction not only meets but exceeds local labor standards by providing health care, 401k pension programs and fair wages to all employees.”
The union-sponsored banner outside the Craig Realty Group’s office claims the company engages in “immigrant labor abuse.”

“Why should we remain silent and allow slanderous accusations to go unanswered?” asks Craig.“Independent companies that bring quality jobs to the community should be welcomed and encouraged. This protest is an unwarranted attack made with the intent to hinder the progress of our local economy.”
