Boy On Bicycle Struck, Killed In Collision With Garbage Truck In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH, CA --- An 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle was fatally injured in a collision with a trash truck this afternoon in Newport Beach.

The boy was struck about 1:30 p.m. on 15th Street between Irvine and Fullerton avenues near Newport Heights Elementary School, according to police Lt. Jeff Brouwer.

It was not immediately known if the boy was a student at the school.

The boy, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, Brouwer said.
