Breaking: Body Found on 73 Freeway in Newport Beach

Police are investigating in Newport Beach where a body was found on the Corona del Mar (73) Freeway Friday afternoon.

A man was found dead today on the Corona del Mar (73) Freeway in Newport Beach, but authorities did not say if foul play was suspected.

A motorist driving north on the freeway called police at 2:24 p.m. to report seeing a body under an overpass at MacArthur Boulevard, according to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department.

"We don't the know the cause of death," said Newport Beach Police Department Sgt. Eric Little. "We are stil investigating the circumstances surrounding the death."

The victim appears to be an adult male, said Little.

As of about 5 p.m., the MacArthur Boulevard transition to the southbound 73 and the MacArthur Boulevard transition to northbound were both closed. Investigators expect, the road to reopen by roughly 6 p.m.
