Child, Teen Arrested After OC Man Dies Of Gunshot Wound

The pair was taken into custody after the fatal shooting was reported in a Costa Mesa neighborhood.

COSTA MESA, CA — Two people were arrested on suspicion of shooting a 35-year-old man in an Orange County neighborhood, authorities said Tuesday.

The shooting was reported on Friday, Nov. 10 at 5:36 p.m. in the 2800 block of Mendoza Drive. Costa Mesa police officers responded to the scene in about three minutes and found a 35-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

While officers gave emergency aid, the man died of his injuries at the scene. He was later identified as Costa Mesa resident Raymond Gonzalez.

18-year-old Ryan Ivan Ramos, of Costa Mesa, and a juvenile whose name was not released were ultimately arrested on suspicion of the crime.

Ramos was charged with murder with a special circumstance allegation of gang activity and a felony count of participating in gang activity. He also faces sentencing enhancements for a gang member's vicarious discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and gang activity.

According to authorities, the shooting was likely gang-related and likely an isolated incident.

In an effort to raise funds for funeral expenses and other things relating to the loss, Gonzalez's brother, David, has set up a GoFundMe page where residents can contribute to the family.

"This is something I wish I didn't have to do," David wrote on GoFundMe. "We're trying to raise funds for a funeral service for my brother Raymond. He was fatally shot in front of his kid's home. Any and everything will help to lay brother to rest."
