Corona Del Mar High Named in U.S. News & World Report's Top 50 Nationwide

Corona Del Mar High School is among the top 50 public high schools in the state, according to rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.

Corona Del Mar High in Newport Beach is ranked 40th statewide and 270th nationally. Also in Orange County University High School in Irvine is ranked 46th in the state and 314 nationally. A whopping 70 percent of the students at Corona Del Mar enroll in Advanced Placement classes.

Corona Del Mar's college-readiness index is 65.4, University High's is 63.3, and Troy's is 58.3.

The rankings were based on language and math proficiency tests; whether black, Hispanic and low-income students performed better than their peers in their states; and, for the first time, graduation rates.

Other Orange County High Schools that ranked among the best are Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana, which is ranked 72nd in the state and 443 nationally, and Arnold O. Beckman High School in Irvine, which is ranked 74th in the state and 461st in the country.

"A high school education is imperative for success in both college and a career, and a school's graduation rate is a key indicator of whether students are being effectively prepared for both paths,' said Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News.

"The 2016 Best High Schools rankings provide students and parents with data-driven information on public schools to help them make better-informed decisions about their education," she said.

The college readiness index was based on the percentage of students who participated in Advanced Placement or international baccalaureate programs.

U.S. News & World Report ranked the School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas as tops in the U.S. for the fifth year in a row.
