Costa Mesa Resident ID'd In Fatal Seal Beach Crash With Big Rig

The crash happened in the early hours of Thursday morning after a big rig and motorcycle crashed on the 405 freeway.

SEAL BEACH, CA — A motorcyclist who died after a fatal crash involving a Caltrans big rig in Seal Beach was identified as a 37-year-old resident of Costa Mesa, the Daily Pilot reported.

The motorcyclist was identified by the county coroner's office as Richard Mendoza, Orange County Sheriff's spokesperson Carrie Braun told the Daily Pilot.

According to a previous Patch report, the crash took place just before 4:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Interstate 405 freeway, just south of Seal Beach Boulevard.

Mendoza was traveling north on the freeway at the same time as a Caltrans truck when it collided with the big rig. Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene, and the factors behind the crash are still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

OC Coroner's officials notified Mendoza's next of kin, who told the Daily Pilot that Mendoza identified as a woman.
