Doyle Arts Pavilion Kicks Off the 2016-17 Season with ‘Transitions’ Exhibit

Emerging artist Eduardo Aispuro brings his sculptural painting series to OCC in the first show of the school year

Orange Coast College’s Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion will host a show titled “Transitions” by Eduardo Aispuro from Sept. 14 until Oct. 13

The show features sculptural paintings that protrude from the wall like waves that are inspired by music, sound and reverberations, and explore the interaction of note, space, and the location of sound and listener. The canvases stretch like skin over soft, hard and angular protrusions, and the way that light and shadow fall, as well as the viewer’s proximity and angle of perception, contribute to their experience.

“Eddie’s work is comprised of large minimalist paintings constructed as sculptural forms. It is very sophisticated work; intelligently considered and well presented,” says Doyle Arts Pavilion Interim Director Steve Radosevich. “[His work] looks like a good fit for us; it shows well in our project space, and it fills a niche that currently seems underrepresented in our programming.”

Aispuro is a recent graduate of UCI’s Masters of Fine Art program and will interact with OCC art students while the exhibit is running, either through lectures or workshops. “Eddie is intelligent, articulate, and easy to relate to,” Radosevich says. “He is very interested in reaching out to OCC students because he had profound learning experiences at the community college level himself.”

The opening reception for “Transitions” will take place on Sept. 14 from 5–7:30 p.m. in the Art Pavilion’s project gallery.
