North American Bluebird Society Conference

NORTH AMERICAN BLUEBIRD SOCIETY 35^TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE TO MEETIN NEWPORT BEACH, CA. 

OCTOBER 4-7 2012

The Southern California Bluebird Club is hosting this family-friendly event, the North American Bluebird Society Annual Conference at conveniently located Radisson Hotel, 4545 MacArthur Boulevard, directly across from the John Wayne Airport!  Members have planned an exciting and entertaining conservation-focused agenda for participants.  Laura Erickson from the ornithology school at Cornell University will be the keynote speaker; her topic, How Birds Learn, and will present a  workshop, 101 Ways to Help Birds.  The NABS is a group to preserve and protect native North American species of bluebirds and other cavity nesting birds.

Other highlights include a hero of conservation, Steve Simmons from Merced, CA.  Steve will be talking about his many years of banding experience, his 800 nest boxes for cavity nesting species and his menagerie of ingenious tools to outwit and safely trap birds.  From Colorado, Andrew Mackie, Executive Director of the Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas, will talk about the status of Mountain Bluebirds, and from Oregon, naturalist, Steve Shunk, will enlighten guests about how woodpeckers are keystone species for cavity nesting birds. A Kids For Conservation program will be held Friday and Saturday afternoons with live birds of prey and an art meets science sessions.
