Flood Watch In Newport Beach Through Wednesday: Where To Get Sandbags
Residents are urged to prepare for the coming storm and expected flood conditions heading toward the region.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Orange County is expected to be impacted by a storm Tuesday, March 14 through Wednesday, March 19, which will bring intermittent periods of heavy rain and potential localized flooding.
The most significant part of the storm is predicted late Tuesday evening and continuing through Wednesday morning.
A flood watch is in effect from Tuesday to 2 p.m. Wednesday for the following cities: Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Orange, Mission Viejo, Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, Newport Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, San Clemente, Santa Ana and Anaheim.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," the National Weather Service said. "Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded."
Newport Beach residents can sign up for real-time safety alerts via Nixle. Residents can register by sending a text message to the number "888777" with your zip code in the body of the message.

Newport Beach residents can also pick up 10 sandbags at the City Corporation Yard located at 592 Superior Avenue. Before taking the drive, residents were told to call Public Works at 949-644-3055 to confirm availability.
"If more than 10 sandbags are needed for your property, please check your loca hardware store for filled or unfilled sandbags for purchase," the city said. "Empty bags may be filled with beach sand."
