Four Hospitalized After Dramatic Costa Mesa Crash
A dramatic collision sent four people to the hospital midday Sunday in Costa Mesa.

COSTA MESA, CA — A Sunday collision left four people hospitalized, authorities said. The Southbound 55 Costa Mesa Freeway was backed up for hours following the crash where a Volkeswagen van overturned and then slammed into the center divider, authorities said.
The crash took place at Mesa Drive, about 1 p.m., an Orange County CHP dispatcher said.
Debris from the vehicles was scattered on several southbound lanes, the CHP said. A SigAlert was issued just after 1 p.m for the cleanup efforts, temporarily shutting down the number one and two southbound lanes.

Four people were transported to hospital for treatment of injuries, the dispatcher said. Their current conditions were unknown.
The CHP cancelled the SigAlert at just before 3:15 p.m. when all lanes were cleared.
