In OC Los Alamitos, Irvine and Laguna Beach Unified students tied for first place honors in both subjects. Here's how Newport schools fared.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA —The standardized test results are back from the 2017-2018 school year, and three districts in Orange County have risen to the top-10 in the state, according to reports. Orange County schools finished higher by average, than other counties across the state, some faring better than others.

Scores for the tests are separated into four levels of achievement: standards exceeded, met, nearly met and not met.

Newport Mesa Unified School District showed that 60-percent met or exceeded state standards in English, while 51-percent met or exceeded state standards in Math. According to the Daily Pilot, this was higher than the California state testing average.

The test scores will make up a key ingredient of the California School Dashboard, a new system for evaluating school performance.

The state Department of Education will use the test results in conjunction with suspension rates, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism figures, college and career readiness data, and other measures to determine if schools and districts are making adequate progress.
