It’s Time to Grow Up

I want to ride my bike, plan a diet, go to the movies, hang with friends.

I don’t want to think about people sending bombs.

I don’t want to think about people being killed in a Temple.

I don’t want to think about people being separated from their kids.

I don’t want to think about people being desperate.

I don’t want to know that the planet has about a minute to live; that the planet is dying.

Every day...

I want to live what’s left of my life having fun, being secure, and once in awhile writing something about the school district.

We have a sick president.

We have a sick congress.

In Newport Beach and hundreds of other places it’s “not the done thing” to be “political”. It’s somehow wrong. It’s something that is done by foolish people who are not quite ready for prime time in the upper class of Newport Beach.

It’s like these “I’m not interested in politics” people somehow think that they and their children are going to be saved from the dying planet and wars fought over water.

That they will be saved from weather we’ve never seen before.

That they won’t lose their houses and their money when it all falls apart.

That the government will able to save them from the destruction of a major earthquake.

That no matter how much money they have, will keep them from being homeless and desperate themselves.

Overly dramatic?

Maybe...but I’m not sure..are you?

It’s time to think, quit denying, and lying to our children and ourselves. It’s time to decide to live on the side of the planet and all the people who live on it...

We know what to do ....

It’s time.
