Lunar New Year Celebrations At Newport's Fashion Island & Irvine Spectrum

Sat. Jan. 28 at Giant Wheel Court, Spectrum, Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Neiman Marcus—Bloomingdale's Courtyard, Fashion Island.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Fashion Island and Irvine Spectrum Center will usher in the Year of the Rooster with special Lunar New Year events this month.

Festivities kick off at Irvine Spectrum Center on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Giant Wheel Court, followed by Fashion Island on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Neiman Marcus—Bloomingdale’s Courtyard, with live entertainment at both centers from noon to 3 p.m., including:

  • Traditional Chinese dragon dancing
  • Korean fan dancing
  • Asian calligraphy artist (at Fashion Island)
  • Selfie station
  • Themed stilt walkers
  • Live classical Chinese musical performance with instruments such as the dizi (bamboo flute), yangqin (butterfly harp) and guzheng (long zither)
  • Lucky money envelopes containing $2 will be given to the first 500 guests at both Fashion Island and Irvine Spectrum Center

“Lunar New Year, the celebration of the year in the Asian community has become a time of year that everyone can enjoy,” said Easther Liu, chief marketing officer for Irvine Company Retail Properties. “We look forward to hosting these Lunar New Year celebrations."

Additionally, several stores and restaurants will be offering their own Lunar New Year promotions. At Irvine Spectrum Center, Capital Seafood Restaurant will offer a special dim sum brunch starting at 10 a.m. with lucky red envelopes containing special Chinese New Year candy for guests. Honey & Butter, known for its intricate macaron confections, will be creating a set of specially designed treats in honor of Lunar New Year, with macarons in fun animal shapes such as pandas.

Starting at noon Jan. 29, guests at Neiman Marcus at Fashion Island will receive a skincare gift set for La Mer purchases of $350 or more while supplies last. Uno de 50 will be giving away an exclusive red bracelet with any purchase that Sunday. Sushi Roku will offer a complimentary 2-piece order of its popular “Hanabi” spicy tuna on crispy rice appetizer until 6 p.m. for guests who spend a minimum of $25.
